Saturday of the Souls Divine Liturgy
On Saturday, February 21 at 9:30 we will hold the Saturday of the Souls Divine Liturgy.
Bring the names of your loved ones you would like remembered on a sheet of paper and place it in the basket on the table near the altar. Place your kolyva on the table as you enter the Church. If you don’t have kolyva but still want your loved ones remembered, that is fine too.
Forgiveness Vespers Sunday Evening
We will hold Forgiveness Vespers at 5pm on Sunday, February 22.
This is easily one of the most moving services in Orthodoxy and the proper way to start Lent. I encourage everyone to attend.

Baptism of Samuel Tewis
Samuel Tewis, brother of Jeremiah Tewis will be baptized on Saturday, February 28 at 11am. Godfather is Jack Long.
Many of you will remember Samuel during Jeremiah’s hospital stay when he would give us the “Jeremiah Report” — the updates on Jeremiah’s progress when he was still in the hospital.
He is currently living in Boca Raton and has been attending Catechumen classes there.
Everyone is invited to attend as witnesses of this joyful event.
A Few Words about Lent
Lent is a time of inner reorientation and purification. It’s a journey with a destination and like all journeys, it takes effort.
We extend that effort in various ways such as fasting, more prayer, more services and other elements necessary for progress in our Christian life.
Progress is important and without effort there can be no progress. God is very merciful to us and he saves even those who come at the ‘eleventh hour’ (the last minute). But starting earlier is better and is to be preferred.
St. Peter’s has a full schedule of services for Lent. Employ them. Exercise the discipline required for progress in our inner lives. Plan your schedule around them to the best measure that you can. You will gain from it in the end.
