Eighth Sunday after Pentecost
Eighth Sunday of Matthew

Our Righteous Fathers Isaacius, Dalmatus, and Faustus; Salome the myrrh-bearer; Venerable Anthony the Roman, Wonderworker of Novgorod

Who were Isaacius, Dalmatus, and Faustus, Ascetics of the Dalmation Monastery?

Our Righteous Fathers Isaacius, Dalmatus, and Faustus

Our Righteous Fathers Isaacius, Dalmatus, and Faustus

On August 3 in the Holy Orthodox Church, we commemorate the venerable and God-bearing fathers Isaacius, Dalmatus and Faustus of the Dalmaton monastery.

Verses

By three men, O Most High, is Thy throne surrounded: One, Faustus; two, Isaacius; three, Dalmatus. On the third, Dalmatus, Faustus and Isaac died.

At first, Dalmatus was an officer during the reign of Emperor Theodosius the Great whom the emperor held in great esteem. When the spirit awakened in him, Dalmatus despised all earthly things, resigned his rank and took his only son Faustus and, with him, went to the community of Isaacius in the outskirts of Constantinople where they both were tonsured as monks. Dalmatus was completely devoted to a God-pleasing life for which the elder Isaacius rejoiced. When Isaacius approached the hour of death, he appointed Dalmatus as abbot in his place. Later, this community was named after him—the so-called Dalmaton. Dalmatus devoted himself to fasting, at times for forty days. By fasting he conquered the invisible demonic power. He participated in the Third Ecumenical Council in Ephesus in 431 and fought against the Nestorian heresy. Pleasing God, he died peacefully in the fifth century. His son Faustus supported his father in everything and, after a God-pleasing life, died peacefully in the Dalmaton community. On this day, we also commemorate Salome the myrrh-bearer; and Venerable Anthony the Roman, wonderworker of Novgorod. By the intercessions of Thy saints, O Christ God, have mercy upon us. Amen

Time to Register your Child for Sunday School

Dear Parents and Grandparents:

It is unimaginable that summer time as we know it here in Florida will be considered over very
soon and our children will be returning to their classrooms.

Traditionally, we do not officially begin Sunday school until one week after Labor Day. This year
September 7 th . However, the Church is required to maintain Sunday school records. We know it
is a nuisance, but your help in expediting this procedure will be greatly appreciated.

We are setting two Sundays aside in the Social Hall so you may enjoy your coffee and snack while
signing up your child/children:

August 17 and 24.

We look forward to teaching the children in a loving and fun manner.

Thank you.

Georgia Katsigianopoulos
Sunday School Administrator

Remember to Keep Up With Your Pledge

The bills are the same in the summer as they are in the winter so please do not fall behind on you pledge.

Support always dips in support but our obligations remain the same. Your consistent support is necessary keep our parish on firm and responsible financial footing.

When You Give to the Good Samaritan Mercy Fund, You Fulfill the Law of Christ

Bear one another's burdens

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ (Galations 6:2)

St. Paul teaches us that God’s law, to love God and neighbor, is fulfilled when we bear one another’s burdens. The Good Samaritan Mercy fund helps us do that by helping parishioners who because of catastrophic circumstances face problems that we can help them with. This year is proving greater than past years so any donation you can make to our fund enables us to carry those burdens of our brothers and sisters in Christ.

All support is local, within our parish. Donations are approved by Fr. Hans and Ron Franklin our Parish Council President. Donations remain confidential.

St. John Chrysostom says those who can give receive their abundance from God in order to give. When we give from our abundance a double blessing occurs — one to the recipient in need, and another to him who gives.

Pledge and Income Report — June 2025

The contributions received in June were $25,384.
The amount of money needed to cover expenses: $33,785.
For this month we are behind by $8,400.
Year-to-date, we are behind by $10,878.

If you have not already done so, please complete a 2025 pledge form. Your pledge will play a vital role in helping us meet our 2025 budget goals and will support ourpreparations for refinancing our mortgage in March 2026.

Don't forget your pledge!

Wisdom From The Elders

The passion of lust wars against everyone, and at the toll-houses the demon of lust will boast before all the princes of darkness that he provided hell with more spoils than all the rest. Be patient, and implore Divine help! St. Anatoly of Optina

A wise and discriminating person, seeing an immaculate home with many children, will come to the conclusion that either the children are damaged, or the mother is barbarian and imposes military discipline. Saint Paisios of Mount Athos

God is an incomplex, most perfect Being, that is, the purest holiness, the purest good and truth; and in order to be in union with God, in order to be one spirit with Him (for we are from Him), we must acquire, through His grace, the most perfect simplicity of goodness, holiness, and love. Righteous John, Wonderworker of Kronstadt

We must never allow envy to enter our hearts, for envy destroys the peace within and the tranquility of the soul. For example, we are at peace. A friend comes along and tells us about someone who has behaved unjustly toward us in the past. This person is now very successful and has achieved a lot. If we have not forgiven this person, the spirit of envy rears its head immediately. Elder Thaddeus(Strabulovich) of Vitovnica

For we do not know how long we may remain in virtue, as says the Prophet who attained to knowledge of this matter by experience: In my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved. Thou didst hide Thy face, and I am troubled (Ps. 29:7, 8).
St. Seraphim of Sarov

You who love God: follow the path onto which the Lord has directed you and fear nothing. Is the whole world against you? Do not fear, but only try to please the Lord God, and then, remembering the words of the holy Apostle, If God be for us, who can be against us? (Rom. 8:31), remain completely calm. Metropolitan Gregory (Postnikov) of St. Petersburg

EPISTLE

For the Eighth Sunday after Pentecost

The Lord will give strength to His people.
Ascribe to the Lord, O sons of God, ascribe to the Lord honor and glory.

The Reading from the First Epistle of St. Paul to the Corinthians. (1:10-17)

Brethren, I appeal to you, by the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree andthat there be no dissension among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the samejudgment. For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there is quarreling among you,my brethren. What I mean is that each one of you says, “I belong to Paul,” or “I belong to Apollos,”or “I belong to Cephas,” or “I belong to Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you?Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crisposand Gaius; lest anyone should say that you were baptized in my name. (I did baptize also thehousehold of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.) For Christdid not send me to baptize but to preach the Gospel, and not with eloquent wisdom, lest the crossof Christ be emptied of its power.

GOSPEL

For the Eighth Sunday of Matthew

The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. (14:14-22)

At that time, when Jesus went ashore he saw a great throng; and he had compassion onthem, and healed their sick. When it was evening, the disciples came to Him and said, “This is alonely place, and the day is now over; send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy foodfor themselves.” Jesus said, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.” They saidto Him, “We have only five loaves here and two fish.” And He said, “Bring them here to Me.”Then He ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass; and taking the five loaves and the two fishHe looked up to Heaven, and blessed, and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelvebaskets full of the broken pieces left over. And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children. Then Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go before Himto the other side, while He dismissed the crowds.
