The Miracle of the Archangel Michael in Colossae
In Phrygia, not far from the city of Hieropolis, in a place called Cheretopos, there was a church named for the Archangel Michael, built over a miraculous spring.
This church was built by a certain inhabitant of the city of Laodicia in gratitude to God for healing his mute daughter. The holy Chief Commander Michael appeared to this man in a dream and revealed to him that his daughter would receive the gift of speech after drinking from the water of the spring. The girl actually did receive healing and began to speak. After this miracle, the father and his daughter and all their family were baptized. In fervent gratitude, the father built the church in honor of the holy Chief Commander Michael. Not only did Christians begin to come to the spring for healing, but also pagans. In so doing, many of the pagans turned from their idols and were converted to the faith in Christ.
At this church of the holy Chief Commander Michael, a certain pious man by the name of Archippus served for sixty years as church custodian. By his preaching and by the example of his saintly life he brought many pagans to faith in Christ. With the general malice of that time towards Christians, and especially against Archippus, the pagans thought to destroy the church in order to prevent people from coming to that holy place of healing, and at the same time kill Archippus.
Toward this end they made a confluence of the Lykokaperos and Kufos Rivers and directed its combined flow against the church. Saint Archippus prayed fervently to the Chief Commander Michael to ward off the danger. Through his prayer the Archangel Michael appeared at the temple, and with a blow of his staff, opened a wide fissure in a rock and commanded the rushing torrents of water to flow into it. The temple remained unharmed. Seeing such an awesome miracle, the pagans fled in terror. Archippus and the Christians gathered in church glorified God and gave thanks to the holy Archangel Michael for the help. The place where the rivers plunged into the fissure received the name “Chonae”, which means “plunging.”

Announcing the Formation of the Sisterhood of Righteous Naomi
Saint Peter‘s is excited to announce the first meeting of the Sisterhood of Righteous Naomi women’s group. Please join us on Saturday, October 3, in the Fellowship Hall at 3:30pm for social time, with meeting to starting promptly at 4pm.
Sisterhood of Righteous Naomi is modeled after Naomi‘s five characteristics of compassion, faith, resilience, loyalty, and humility.
This group is for all women, 16 and older, inquirers, catechumens, newly baptized, cradle Orthodox and everywhere in between.
This group will assist you in growing into your orthodox faith with deep discussions, cross-generational wisdom, and forming a sisterhood bond with fellow sisters who love and support one another.

Help Eldar Raise Funds for His Cancer Treatment
Eldar Sharashenidze, a member of St. Paul Orthodox Church and a friend of St. Peter’s needs funds to pay for cancer treatment.

In 2023, I was diagnosed with lung cancer. I had surgery, and afterward they told me they got all of it. I believed that. I went back to work and did my best to put it behind me.
The cancer is back.
I am going to start everything from the beginning, all the treatments, scans, and appointments, so I do not know yet what treatment will be done this time.
I am not comfortable asking. I have always worked for what I have. But I would rather ask than lose ground while I am fighting this.
Anything helps. And if you cannot give, sharing this with one person who might is worth just as much.

When You Give to the Good Samaritan Mercy Fund, You Fulfill the Law of Christ
Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ (Galations 6:2)
St. Paul teaches us that God’s law, to love God and neighbor, is fulfilled when we bear one another’s burdens. The Good Samaritan Mercy fund helps us do that by helping parishioners who because of catastrophic circumstances face problems that we can help them with. This year is proving greater than past years so any donation you can make to our fund enables us to carry those burdens of our brothers and sisters in Christ.
All support is local, within our parish. Donations are approved by Fr. Hans and Ron Franklin our Parish Council President. Donations remain confidential.
St. John Chrysostom says those who can give receive their abundance from God in order to give. When we give from our abundance a double blessing occurs — one to the recipient in need, and another to him who gives.

Sunday School Begins September 13, 2026
The 2026-27 Sunday School Year is beginning on September 13th when we will be celebrating The Elevation of the Cross. We would like to have all our children in church for Father Hans to bless them as they begin the school year.
“Kindergarten” will be comprised of 4 and 5 year olds, 6 to 9 will be the “Elementary” group, and those children 10 and up will be in the “Senior” group.
All children participating must be registered. We will get back to you with more information.

Brethren, it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has commissioned us; He has put his seal upon us and given us His Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. But I call God to witness against me—it was to spare you that I refrained from coming to Corinth. Not that we lord it over your faith; we work with you for your joy, for you stand firm in your faith. For I made up my mind not to make you another painful visit. For if I cause you pain, who is there to make me glad but the one whom I have pained? And I wrote as I did, so that when I came I might not suffer pain from those who should have made me rejoice, for I felt sure of all of you, that my joy would be the joy of you all. For I wrote you out of much affliction and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to cause you pain but to let you know the abundant love that I have for you.

The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. (22:2-14)
The Lord spoke this parable: “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a marriage feast for his son, and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast; but they would not come. Again he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have made ready my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves are killed, and everything is ready; come to the marriage feast.’ But they made light of it and went off, one to his farm, another to his business, while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them. The king was angry, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those invited were not worthy. Go therefore to the thoroughfares, and invite to the marriage feast as many as you find.’ And those servants went out into the streets and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good; so the wedding hall was filled with guests. But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment; and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, and cast him into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.’ For many are called, but few are chosen.”
